Deutsche Telekom to offer low-cost IPTV

April 4, 2017 11.05 Europe/London By Jörn Krieger

German telco Deutsche Telekom will launch an entry-level IPTV package on May 2, 2017, providing around 100 TV channels, 22 of them in HD quality, for €2 per month.

The precondition for StartTV is a broadband internet connection from Telekom and the new IPTV receiver Entry which can be rented for €2.95 per month or purchased for €79.99.

The HD Start package with 24 further HD channels as well as Entertain TV mobil for mobile TV on the smartphone and tablet can be subscribed to at an additional fee.

StartTV which also contains an electronic programme guide (EPG) and a search function, complements Telekom’s existing, more comprehensive IPTV platform Entertain TV.

StartTV will be further expanded, Michael Hagspihl, managing director of Telekom’s consumer business department, said at a press conference announcing the new service: The telco’s video-on-demand (VOD) portal Videoload and pay-TV offers will be added to StartTV later this year.

For the introduction, there is a special offer: Viewers signing up for StartTV before August 31, 2017, will receive the new IPTV service and the rental receiver for free for one year. The special offer is open to both existing and new Telekom customers.
