Industrial action in the French department of French Guiana has forced Arianespace to indefinitely postpone the latest Ariane 5 launch.
The launch vehicle, with its SGDC and KOREASAT-7 satellite payloads, remain in a stand-by mode.
Endel Engie, the company responsible for moving the Ariane 5 launch vehicle from the Spaceport’s Final Assembly Building to the launch zone went on strike Monday.
Across the department workers have been protesting over employment conditions, high crime rates, and proposals to privatise a local medical centre.
Strikes have led to the closure of the majority of busisneses in the capital Cayene. Schools have been closed and planes unable to land.
