Poland’s Cyfrowy Polsat has criticised plans by the National Broadcasters Council (KRRiT) to limit capital concentration in media to 30%.
Quoted by Wirtualne Media, it argues that they are aimed at domestic players and favour foreign ones such as the on SVOD services Netflix and Showmax, which would not be affected by any restrictions.
It adds that the KRRiT put forward its proposal for consultation last month as part of a six-year strategy plan that would seek in part to safeguard pluralism in Polish media.
The 30% cap would apply to shares in ad revenues, pay-TV revenues, TV and radio audiences and users of online services.
The KRRiT would also like to protecct the market by regulating the cross-ownership of media assets.
