Hungary’s Competition Authority (GVH) has blocked the proposed acquisition of Central Digital Media by Magyar RTL Televizió.
According to BBJ, the GVH acted on an earlier opinion of the regulator NMHH, which refused the deal in January on the grounds that it would impact negatively on competition in Hungary’s digital and TV markets.
Magyar RTL Televizió is the leading broadcaster in Hungary and initially lodged a bid to buy a 30% stake in Central Digital Media, the online portfolio of Central Médiacsoport, last October.
It operates the national commercial station RTL Klub, whose main competitor is TV2.
