Emblematic Group wins DC Global Media Innovator

February 3, 2017 12.19 Europe/London By Robert Briel

DC Global Media Innovator goes to Virtual Reality company, Emblematic Group, founded by Nonny de la Peña considered to be the Godmother of VR.

The Diplomatic Council (DC,) a United Nations accredited global think tank, has named US-based Emblematic Group, a creator of immersive virtual, augmented and mixed reality experiences, as the recipient of the DC Global Media Innovator (GMI) 2017.

Founded by Nonny de la Peña known as the Godmother of virtual reality, Emblematic Group pioneered the medium of virtual reality documentary films. This is announced at the Diplomatic Council (DC) All Nations Gala in Frankfurt tonight, Friday, February 3.

The GMI Board explains: “Emblematic is one of the world’s leading producers of immersive virtual reality content. Company founder Nonny de la Peña was named the “Godmother of Virtual Reality” by British newspaper The Guardian. Their work is pushing the boundaries of storytelling to create empathy in audiences for stories that matter. This year they received a grant from the Knight Foundation to produce VR documentaries in partnership with Frontline and to collaborate on crafting and disseminating best practices for VR journalism.”

Dieter Brockmeyer, chairman DC Global Media Forum, says: “Emblematic again is a great pioneer company finding ways of how to use VR in Documentary Films and News Journalism creating a fully new experience for the audience. After V-Nova last year this is another strong global Innovator. I’m full of praise for our splendid board that did a marvelous job again!”

The Diplomatic Council is a global think tank, business network and charity foundation in special consultative status with the United Nations. The Global Media Innovator recognises the company that has the greatest influence on the advancement of the digital world society. The winner is carefully selected by a top-class board made up of eight international and independent media and IT experts.

The Global Media Innovator was launched last year and awarded to the British company V-Nova for the first time. V-Nova has developed a revolutionary technology to transmit huge data volumes through existing data cables – an innovation that provides the basis for a large number of new digital offerings and services around the world.
