Eurosport 1 HD and DMAX HD to join DVB-T2 in Germany

January 4, 2017 15.34 Europe/London By Jörn Krieger

Sports channel Eurosport 1 HD and men’s channel DMAX HD will be part of the commercial channel proposition Freenet TV launching on March 29, 2017 on the German DVB-T2 platform.

The agreement was reached between TV broadcaster Discovery Networks Deutschland and platform operator Media Broadcast. “Following our long-standing partnership on DVB-T, it is a logical step for us to also be part of DVB-T2 HD with our channel brands,” said Alberto Horta, deputy managing director and vice president strategy & commercial development at Discovery Networks Deutschland.

Through the carriage of Eurosport 1 HD, terrestrial TV households will be able to watch the Olympic Games the channel will broadcast along with DMAX HD live and exclusively in Germany from 2018.

The DVB-T2 platform will contain 20 public and commercial free-to-air TV channels each, mainly in Full HD quality, including the channels from ARD, ZDF, RTL and ProSiebenSat.1. Only the public channels will be transmitted unencrypted.

Most commercial channels will be encrypted and accessible through Freenet TV for a yearly fee of €69. As part of the introductory period, the commercial channels will be available at no charge until the end of June 2017.
