Markus Haas will become the new CEO of Telefónica Deutschland on January 1, 2017.
This decision was made by the telco’s supervisory board at its meeting on December 11, 2016.
Haas, currently Chief Operating Officer of Telefónica Deutschland, will head the company in close cooperation with Rachel Empey, Chief Financial and Strategy Officer. Both led Telefónica Deutschland through its IPO, the merger with competitor E-Plus Group and the integration of both companies.
The supervisory board also agreed with Haas to extend his contract until December 31, 2019. Empey’s contract was extended until December 31, 2018.
Current CEO Thorsten Dirks who announced his resignation in November 2016 will continue to support the management team until the end of the first quarter 2017 to ensure a smooth transition in leadership, according to Telefónica Deutschland.
