Berlusconi: Vivendi caused “serious damage”

December 2, 2016 11.06 Europe/London By Julian Clover

Mediaset CEO Pier Silvio Berlusconi says Vivendi caused “serious damage” to the company when it pulled out of an agreement to buy pay-TV operation Mediaset Premium.

Berlusconi told local media that he still doesn’t understand the reasons for the withdrawal.

The media executive said the idea behind a European platform was Mediasets and that it would continue to pursue the deal with other partners.

In the course of the past month it has been variously reported that the sale of Mediaset Premium is on hold for at least 12 months and that Mediaset is in talks with Sky over a possible sale.

A bid for Mediaset Premium, Mediaset’s DTT pay platform, was initially made in April but collapsed in August leading Mediaset to file suit against Vivendi for allegedly pulling out of the deal.
