Croatia awards TV licences

November 23, 2016 08.34 Europe/London By Chris Dziadul

Laudato TVCroatia’s Agency for Electronic Media (AEM) has awarded terrestrial licences to the broadcasters Laudato TV and VTV.

The one issued to the former covers the digital region d44-46, which includes the capital, Zagreb, while latter’s covers digital region 2.

In a note about its decision, AEM says that it failed to reach majority agreement about a licence for another digital region (7) that was being contested by VTV, TV Dalmatia and TV Adriatic.

It is also critical of bidders for digital regions 2 and 7 for failing to offer anything additional, in terms of local content, to that already available to viewers.

Laudato TV is a religious/family-oriented channel, while VTV has operated as a broadcaster in North Western Croatia since 1999 and now covers over 70% of the country.
