Following years of effort by the Croatian regulator HAKOM, Italy has finally begun to shut down transmitters causing interference to digital TV reception in Croatia.
In a statement, HAKOM says that in accordance with the decisions of the Italian national authorities, and international agreements, broadcasters have started to voluntarily shut such transmitters, or switched channels to others that do not cause interference.
The first were located in the regions of Friuli Venezia Giulia, Veneto and Puglia, and the process should be completed by the end of this month.
HAKOM worked with a number of international bodies, including the ITU, to stop the inteference.
Meanwhile, Italy made a number of regulatory changes over the last three years to assist in the process.
