Timvision launches hybrid Android TV set-top

July 15, 2016 10.46 Europe/London By Robert Briel

timvision-decoder-android-tvGoogle’s Android TV is now coming to Italy with a hybrid set top-box delivered by Timvision, the TV platform of telecom operator Telecom Italia (TIM).

The hybrid STB combine digital terrestrial reception (DVB-T2) reception with access to online services, including TIM’s own Timvision, as well as OTT services available on Android TV.

In addition to running Android TV, the set-top box has full Google Cast features and support for 4K content and output. It is powered by a quad-core Marvell ARM CPU. Besides having access to the full Play Store, there is a redesigned Timvision app that features simplified navigation and new discovery features.

It comes with a narrow remote that has a microphone for voices commands, D-Pad, and a full number pad to easily access digital television. Ports include Ethernet, Optical Digital Output, TV input, HDMI, USB, and micro SD card, as well as 5GHz 802.11ac Wi-Fi.

Tim Smart customers can rent the box for €2 per month, or buy the box for €109. Timvision is the new name for Telecom Italia’s Cubovision on-demand and internet TV service.
