Swisscom is using a Cisco Ultra High Definition Live Encoding Solution, a part of the Cisco Virtual Video Processing platform, to run its 4K service, the technology company has announced.
As reported in Broadband TV News the service went live on April 14.
“We decided to evaluate a number of encoders in a pilot phase to ensure that we made the right selection, with focus on picture quality and stability,” said Peter Fregelius, head of TV Development and Technology, Swisscom. “Cisco came out on top with excellent live UHD picture quality and delivering the stability we requested. We are very happy to collaborate with Cisco for our UHD live launch during the 2016 European Football Championship.”
“Our internal development of innovative 4K encoding, HDR-readiness and integration with the Cisco Virtual DCM have been important milestones crossed to offer end-to-end UHD delivery,” said Yves Padrines, vice president, Global Service Provider EMEAR, Cisco. “It was exciting to work with Swisscom TV during the implementation of the UHD live encoding for the European Football Championship to offer their subscribers a superior viewer experience.”
