The Russian DTH platform Tricolor TV has connected its 7 millionth HD subscriber.
As a result, 59% of its customer base now receives services in the format. Furthermore, it now accounts for half of all HD subscribers in the country.
Tricolor TV began this year with 6.6 million HD subscribers and has therefore added 400,000 in less than three months.
All its new subscribers receive HD channels, while existing customers are being moved from MPEG-2 to MPEG-4 reception equipment, with the process due to be completed by 2017.
Tricolor TV claims to have more HD customers than any other platform in Europe, beating the UK’s `sky (5.8 million) into second place.
Globally, it is in third place, behind DirecTV (15.9 million) and Dish TV (10.3 million).
Within Russia, 9.62% of its HD base is located in the Krasnodar region, followed by 8.4% in the Moscow region.
