Telefonica’s Movistar has signed a €2.4 billion agreement with Mediapro to screen additional matches from La Liga and Champions League.
It means Telefonica will now have access to games covered by its sometime rival’s sports channel BeIn Sports.
“With this agreement, Movistar + is fulfilling its commitment to provide its entire customer base a comprehensive offering with all the best sports content,” said Telefonica in a note sent to the local competition authority.
Included in the package are matches from the first and second divisions of La Liga alongside the King’s Cup competition.
The domestic football competition will be available for three seasons, starting from 2016-17. It will have immediate access to the Champions League, running to the end of the 2017-18 season.
