Google has announced a number of new TV partners running the Android TV operating system.
Taking advantage of the 88% of consumer electronic devices in 2015 that were internet-enabled, the company has said Android TV will be available in 2016 from Arcelik, Vestel, RCA, Hisense, TCL and Bang & Olufsen branded TVs.
Android TV is already supported by Sony, Sharp and Philips. The system offers access to popular streaming services including Netflix, Amazon Prime Video and apps from public and commercial broadcasters.
The Google Cast technology used in Chromecast – and a rival to Apple’s Airplay – is now embedded directly into speakers, sound bars, and A/V receivers. Google says that during the course of the year Google Cast speakers will become available from B&O Play, Harman Kardon, Onkyo, Philips, Pioneer, and Raumfeld.
