Xite launches Personalised Music Television

December 14, 2015 09.13 Europe/London By Robert Briel

XITE - Personalised Music TelevisionThe Dutch music platform Xite is launching Personalised Music Television in Netherlands on the Ziggo network.

The application, which is accessible via set-top boxes, will be made available before the end of year to other television providers. The app turns Xite into a kind of “Spotify for the TV set”.

“Looking at video clips on linear channels feels outdated. Switching between different music channels and hope that you come across a nice clip is no longer acceptable nowadays,” said Marius Brok, director of distribution partnerships at Xite.

“With Personalised Music Television the viewers only watches the video clips that one likes. Xite makes it possible to personalise the channel intuitively by ‘liking’ a nice clip and to “skip” when a clip shows that the viewer does not like. The in-house developed personalisation algorithm allows the channel to play out clips that match the user’s preferences. For deeper personalisation there are curated “channels” such as Urbania, Teen Party and Sunday Chill or by selecting your own channel to create on the basis of our Hear-See-Feel system. ”

“With this Xite exceeds the limits of linear television, video on demand and the internet, and knows how to combine the strongest features of these media into a single product: Xite Personalised Music Television.”

“Operators are eager to incorporate our product in their portfolio. Xite Personalised Music Television is seen as the means to retain Millennials in the eco-system of traditional operators,” said Derk Nijssen, founder and owner of Xite.

“Xite’s Personalised Music Television product fits into our vision for the development of TV: it’s personal, interactive and above all entertaining. Xite thus making full use of all possibilities offered by our Horizon media and entertainment platform, “said Jeroen Bergman, managing director of programming at Liberty Global.

Xite is offering the system to the international market, and hope to announce new distribution deals in the near future.

Last year, Xite was the winner in Liberty Global’s first TV Appathon with the social radio TV App Daily Noise, which went directly live in the TV App Store and is available to all Horizon TV customers in the Netherlands. This TV App enables users to listen to live radio channels while being updated in real-time on what is trending on their favourite topic.
