Cisco has announced plans to buy OTT developer 1Mainstream. The San Jose-based start up has worked with Sky, Now TV Foxtel and the Rugby World Cup.
1Mainstream’s platform provides automation technology to enable content companies to launch OTT services across multiple platforms – such as Apple TV, Xbox, Android TV and Samsung
“1Mainstream’s technology complements Cisco’s new ‘Infinite’ suite of cloud-powered video entertainment solutions designed to help service providers, broadcasters and media companies to deliver outstanding TV experiences to multiple screens, utilizing one cloud, on any network. Today’s acquisition will enable service providers, broadcasters and media companies to make their entire channel lineup and content library available to their customers on the internet via their TV, tablet or connected devices, either within the home or on the go,” said Rob Salvagno, Cisco’s vice president, corporate business development in a blog post.
Sky, which has used 1 Mainstream for the delivery of Sky News and Now TV over Apple TV, has invested $7 million in 1Mainstream, the most recent tranche in March this year.
