Russia’s Federal Antimonopoly Service (FAS) has approved a new partnership between Discovery Communications and the National Media Group (NMG).
As previously reported in Broadband TV News, the two have agreed to create a new company named Media Alliance that, in order to comply with legislation due to come into effect at the beginning of 2016, will be 20% owned by Discovery.
In a separate development, FAS has given Google until November 18 to stop abusing its dominant position in the pre-installed apps in the Android operating system. Failure to comply could result in it being fined 1% to 15% of its turnover for such apps.
Yandex, Google’s biggest competitor in Russia, filed an antitrust complaint against Google with FAS earlier this year.
