German transmitter network operator Media Broadcast has selected UK-based media and device testing company Eurofins Digital Testing (formally Digital TV Labs) to build a complete test suite for the upcoming rollout of its DVB-T2/HEVC and HbbTV platform.
In order to launch the service, Media Broadcast required interoperability with customers’ integrated TV sets, set-top-boxes and consumer devices using the enhanced capability offered by HbbTV.
Eurofins Digital Testing will create a receiver specification and develop DVB-T2/HEVC test suites including include CI+ CAM and DRM support. The company will also develop a German HbbTV profile specification along with a supporting HbbTV test suite that will test the specific requirements of the advanced German DTT network.
The project will ensure that German consumers have a wide choice of low-cost reception devices with guaranteed comprehensive functionality, according to Eurofins Digital Testing.
Media Broadcast’s DVB-T2/HEVC platform will comprise 40 to 45 SD and HD channels as well as HbbTV-based hybrid services allowing delivery of additional OTT channels and applications. Trials are currently taking place in Munich, Berlin and Cologne/Bonn with the first services to launch in urban areas in May/June 2016.
