The Bulgarian TV station Kanal 3 may shortly have a new owner.
According to Capital and Dnevnik, the New Bulgarian Media Group Holding (NBMGH) has asked the competition authority for approval to buy a controlling stake in the station from Elit Media Bulgaria.
NBMGH is controlled by the politician and media entrepreneur Delyan Peevsky, and the acquisition of Kanal 3 is being driven by his mother Irena Krasteva.
In a parallel development, she has transferred half of the shares in the Balkan Media Company, the owner of NBMGH, to Peevsky.
NBMGH’s interests currently lie in the print sector.
It is understood to have been targeting Kanal 3 for up to a year and this will be its first foray into Bulgaria’s TV industry.
