Switzerland’s largest cable operator UPC Cablecom has completed the transition to digital television with the last analogue channel having been switched off in Ticino on July 7, 2015.
The subsidiary of US media company Liberty Global has solely been carrying digital channels on its cable network since then. The analogue offering had been gradually reduced in the preceding months.
UPC Cablecom informed its 1.4 million customers through e-mails, postcards and letters about the digital TV transition. A special hotline received around 91,000 calls. A mobile information desk toured through 24 towns in 68 days answering questions. The employees in UPC Cablecom’s shops and service points also provided information.
Customers without digital TV reception equipment were issued with a converter free of charge. A total of 100,000 devices were ordered.
