Competition in Spain will intensify significantly on April 20 when Vodafone launches its first convergent offer.
Quoting several sources close to the situation, El Economista reports that Vodafone will effectively be “declaring war” on Telefónica by offering customers substantial discounts who sign up for one or more mobile line, with flat-rate data, along with super fast fixed broadband via cable or fibre, along with the TiVo pay-TV service.
It adds that Vodafone will have to quickly improve on its initial convergent offer as competitors fight back with their own offers.
The main protagonists will be Vodafone and Movistar, the brand name under which Telefónica operates under in Spain, and to a lesser degree Orange.
Vodafone acquired Ono, Spain’s leading cable operator, in a deal worth €7.2 billion late last year.
It is now in the process of migrating Ono’s customers to Vodafone, with the process likely to be completed a week before the expected announcement on the convergent offer on April 20.
