Public broadcasting in Hungary will undergo major reorganisation and the restructuring of its management by March 15.
Quoting a statement released by the Hungarian Media Authority (MTVA), BBJ reports that under the plan the flagship public channel M1 will be transformed from a general interest to a news-only service.
It will be rebranded and modelled on the BBC.
Meanwhile, Duna Television will assume M1’s current position and M2, the second public channel, will be renamed Petöfi TV.
A fourth channel, known as M4 Sport, will also be launched.
Following legislation passed at the end of last year, public broadcasting in Hungary, hitherto overseen be two companies – MTV Zrt and Duna TV Zrt – will come under the control of a single entity named Duna Médiaszolgáltató.
