Austria’s largest cable operator UPC Austria will introduce OTT service Horizon Go on November 10, 2014.
With the free-of-charge Horizon Go app which will be offered for operating systems iOS and Android in the Apple App Store and Google Play Store customers will be able to access linear TV channels and UPC Austria’s video-on-demand service on smartphones and tablets.
The service which will also be available on PCs and Laptops will use the customers’ local Wi-Fi networks. They will be able to use it on up to three devices at the same time.
Horizon Go will be provided to customers at no extra charge. The precondition is that they have signed up for cable TV and internet access from UPC Austria.
The channels customers can use through Horizon Go will depend on the TV packages they subscribe to: The customers of UPC TV Plus will get 100 channels, the customers of UPC TV Start 74 channels and the customers of UPC TV Mini 55 channels. Due to rights issues, Horizon Go won’t be accessible through mobile networks or third-party internet service providers.
Horizon Go is also offered by sister companies Unitymedia Kabel BW in Germany and UPC Cablecom in Switzerland. Multimedia box Horizon available in the two neighbouring countries, however, isn’t offered in Austria.
