Netflix has raised the price for access to its 4K UltraHD content to €11.99 (in the US $11.99) citing higher acquisition costs.
However, the new pricing structure only applies to new subscribers, as current Netflix members have a grace period till August 12, 2016.
“We decided to move 4K UHD video into our four-stream plan for new members who sign up and care about the highest-quality video Netflix offers,” a Netflix spokesperson told Variety.
“We have a modest and growing catalog of titles in 4K, including House of Cards, Breaking Bad, The Blacklist and a slate of upcoming Netflix original series.”
Netflix launched its first 4K UltraHD programming last April with the new House of Cards season. In order to freceive the full $K quality, Netflix members need to have a broadband connection speed of at least 25 Mbps.
