ALBtelecom has opted for Amino set-top boxes to support the rollout of its new ALBtv IPTV service.
The Albanian telco will deploy the HD devices as part of a triple play package of TV, broadband and telephony services.
Initially available in the cities of Korce and Pogradec, it will in due course be available throughout the whole country on its fibre and DSL network.
AlBtv will also include multiscreen, as well as VOD.
Commenting on the development, ALBtelecom CMO Floreta Zhulali said: “We will always bring to the Albanian market the best service and latest technology, and in our effort to successfully launch IPTV, Amino has been instrumental in securing reliable and top quality products.’’
Amino chief executive Donald McGarva added: “We’re delighted to secure this strategic and important contract with one of Eastern Europe’s most vibrant IPTV service providers. The combination of Amino’s award winning technology and ALBtelecom’s future thinking philosophy is a compelling proposition and we look forward to supporting their service rollout.”
ALBtelecom serves around 230,000 customers, or over 80% of Albania’s fixed line telephony customer base.
Over the last five years, it has invested over €150m in building out its fibre backbone, which now extends to over 3,000 km, and deployed DSL technologies in many parts of the country.
