Cisco Systems is understood to have found a way of circumventing the ban on exports to Russia.
According to Kommersant, this will involve the transfer of all rights to Cisco products to the Experimental Factory of Scientific Engineering (EZAN), which belongs to RAS and currently organises the development and production of these products in Russia.
All equipment will be issue with a unique local brand, and rights for the products after the signing of a contract will go to EZAN, confirmed Lev Levin, the director of Cisco business development in Russia and the CIS.
Cisco says that the cooperation will be carried out in accordance with the long-term agreements reached between Cisco and the then Russian president Dmitry Medvedev in 2010.
Cisco set-top boxes have been produced at a factory in Tver since 2011.
According to Levin, the intellectual property rights belong to Cisco Systems International and there is little precedence for the transfer of such rights on Cisco equipment produced by local partners.
