BSkyB has made a $400,000 equity investment in Jaunt, a Californian technology company that specialises in cinematic virtual reality.
It follows a $350,000 investment made in an earlier round of funding in December 2013. Sky said the investments provide it with additional insight into developments within the field.
Jaunt’s website said it was “bringing the necessary creative palette (hardware, software, tools, and applications) to enable cinematic VR and put the power of virtual reality in the hands of today’s best content creators”.
The Palo Alto company has developed proprietary algorithms for complex computational photography allow content producers to create cinematic VR experiences using existing production software.
Other investors include Redpoint Ventures, investor Peter Gotcher and Sling Media founder Blake Krikorian.
