Dutch public broadcaster NOS has launched its Google Glass news app, available for download now.
The news updates will appear in the form of a card in the Google Glass Timeline. This card contains a picture of the current news, and a brief weather forecast for day. When the use opens the card, the news bulletin will play as an audio news bulletin. The app is simple, lightweight and effective, according the NOS
NOS opted for audio because of the special characteristics of audio in Google Glass. The speaker touches the head behind your ear, and sound is partially transmitted through the skull (bone conduction). So people can discreetly listen to sound clips or music without disturbing others.
In its tech blog, NOS said “No one knows how Google Glass will develop. The general expectation is that portable technology the ‘wearables’, will play an increasingly role in our daily lives. This is the reason that NOS has developed as an experiment the news app for Google Glass.”
