German pay-TV broadcaster Sky Deutschland will terminate carriage of children’s channel Nicktoons on its platform on June 30, 2014.
Sky Deutschland and Nicktoons’ parent company Viacom International Media Networks have decided in mutual consent not to continue the licence agreement for the distribution of the pay-TV channel in Germany and Austria, the companies said in a statement.
No reason was given for the decision. Sky, though, stresses in the statement that its focus lies on the expansion of its HD proposition. Nicktoons, however, has only been available in standard definition (SD).
For children and families, Sky continues to have Disney Junior, Disney XD, Disney Cinemagic, Junior, Boomerang and Cartoon Network on board its platform.
Nicktoons remains available in Germany on the cable networks of Unitymedia and Kabel BW and within the mobile TV offering of Deutsche Telekom among other carriage partners. With programmes from the areas of action, fantasy, adventure and comedy, the channel targets boys between 6 and 13 years of age.
