Romtelecom expands cable with Videoscape

May 22, 2014 08.55 Europe/London By Julian Clover, ANGA COM

Dolce cardRomtelecom is deploying Cisco’s Videoscape as its expands its pay-TV service from satellite to cable.

With an eye on capex the Romanian operator will use its existing satellite headend, building on the suite of NDS/Cisco solutions including VideoGuard conditional access and MediaHighway middleware that have been in place since 2006.

Ciprian State, TV Product Development Manager, Romtelecom and COSMOTE Romania said: “With the launch of this cable platform enhancement we are expanding our footprint to areas that were previously unable to access our services. With Videoscape we are able to do so with little impact on our operating expense, but with the ability to offer the same quality of experience irrespective of the delivery mechanism.”

Yves Padrines, vice president Service Provider Video, Europe, Middle East, Africa and Russia, Cisco added “As a longstanding customer, we’re delighted to be working with Romtelecom on an initiative that has the potential to grow their business substantially. We look forward to our continued work together.”

Romtelecom already operates DTH and IPTV services, both of which use the Dolce brand.
