Germany’s national telco Deutsche Telekom has gained 78,000 new customers for its domestic IPTV platform Entertain in Q1 2014, marking a stronger growth than in Q1 2013 when 70,000 new customers were added.
In the past 12 months, Entertain recorded 219,000 new customers. The total number of households signed up for the offering amounts to 2.26 million.
Deutsche Telekom also reports rising demand for its fibre-optic products VDSL and FTTH: 222,000 new customers opted for a fibre-optic broadband line in Q1 2014 (Q1 2013: 156,000). The total number of fibre-optic customers amounts to 1.7 million.
The availability of fibre-optic lines rose to 38% of the population in Q1 2014 from 34% in Q1 2013. With mobile broadband standard LTE, Telekom now covers 78% of the population (Q1 2013: 50%).
