2wcom shows new products at ANGA COM

April 29, 2014 23.23 Europe/London By Donald Koeleman

ANGACOM 2014. 10.2 / booth E9. Wireless World Communications, 2wcom, will be joining Wisi at its ANGA COM booth launching new professional audio broadcast products for FM, RDS, DAB, DAB+, DVB-S, DVB-S2 and DVB-T.

Werner Drews, MD of 2wcom, is excited about showing the new products at this year’s ANGA COM exhibiter. “This is our first opportunity to present some exciting new products to ANGA COM visitors, including our extremely versatile new redundancy solution, SFN system, ground-breaking FM/MPX coder/encoder, and DAB+ system. Each offers radio broadcasters new ways of raising quality, increasing efficiency and lowering costs”.

2wcom was formed in 1996 with the buyout of Rohde & Schwarz’s FM/RDS product range, and offers complete end-to-end DVB-S/S2 Audio/IP Satellite system solutions including professional encoders, modulators and a highly reliable IRD product range.

The vendor is introducing four new products at the show, the FlexNsert/FlexXtract DAB+ distribution via satellite. A compact encoder/decoder for FM distribution, over IP. A Single Frequency Network System solution for assured SFN synchronization, and an automatic analyser and selector for the best source for FM transmitters.

The FlexNsert DAB+ Distribution Inserter receives a DAB ETI data stream (according to EN 300799), converts the stream into a standard MPEG2-TS-signal and outputs it via ASI or Ethernet transport stream interfaces. The FlexXtract+ DAB+ Distribution Extractor demodulates a data stream (2048 kbps) from a DVB-S or DVB-S2 signal and converts the data into a standard ETI-signal according to EN 300799 or EDI-signal according to TS 102 693 to feed DAB or DAB+ transmitters. Both units offer optional advanced bandwidth saving technology for up to 45% greater efficiency, together with a multi-program regionalisation management option.

The new FMC01 is a compact codec for high-quality FM MPX contribution and distribution via IP or E1 (G.703) connections. 2wcom claims ‘an industry first’, the combination of Encoder and Decoder functions in the same unit. With 100% lossless audio encoding/decoding and optimised bandwidth technology that delivers maximum FM quality, the FMC01 is a point-to-multipoint distribution solution that redefines the cost/performance equation for radio networks.

2wcom’s new solution for assured SFN synchronization with flexible modular configuration provides s-accurate synchronization for implementing FM SFN networks over existing analogue transmission infrastructure. Distribution can be by E1, IP or satellite, and any one of the feeds can be selected for backup purposes without affecting the synchronisation. Adjustment of runtime differences, jitter etc. is automatic.

The ALA-MPX provides automatic analysis and selection of best MPX modulation source for FM transmitters. 2wcom’s ALA-MPX monitors and compares up to four MPX signals from different sources and switches automatically to the best alternative source according to defined criteria, in the case of failure. Simultaneous RDS monitoring of three modulation sources is combined with level monitoring with bar graph for quick level control, and MP3 monitoring based on a TCP/IP data stream. Easy operation and maintenance of this robust redundancy solution is provided through features such as dual redundant power supplies, with configuration and remote monitoring through a web interface.
