UPC Austria to expand HD line-up

April 14, 2014 12.28 Europe/London By Jörn Krieger

Austria’s largest cable operator UPC Austria will add 10 new HD channels to its cable network in mid-May 2014 and reduce the analogue TV proposition in return.

The customers of UPC TV Start and UPC TV Plus will gain SF 2 HD, Phoenix HD, ZDFinfo HD, EinsPlus HD, Sport1 HD, MDR Fernsehen HD and SWR Fernsehen HD. The pay-TV package HD Extra will be expanded by Animal Planet HD, Nat Geo People HD and Universal Channel HD to a total of 22 HD channels.

At the same time, analogue TV channels will be removed: In Vienna and Lower Austria RAI Uno, Euronews, TV5 Monde, ARTE, TRT International, Sport1, CNN International and SWR Fernsehen will be affected. In Upper Austria SWR Fernsehen, Sport1, MDR Fernsehen, ARTE, Eurosport and 3sat will be removed. The channels will continue to be carried in digital.

UPC Austria will then offer a total of 240 digital TV channels, of which 67 will be in HD quality.
