Slovenia’s STN has announced that it has brought the new DTH platform operated by the Chinese company Startimes to sub-Saharan Africa.
According to the satellite services company, it was specifically sought out by Startimes, which already has a large presence in the DTV/DTH market in Africa, providing pay-TV services for over 2.5 million subscribers in 11 countries.
The platform uses Ka-band on Astra’s SES 5 satellite with the signals delivered through MPEG-4/DVB-S2. STN says Startimes entrusted it with this new high profile project with the key factors being, STN’s proven experience and reputation for high quality reliable services combined with the ability to surmount any possible obstacles.
It adds that as part of STN’s work ethic to research the needs of the current market and advance forward, STN’s engineers developed an enhancement for uplink transmission service technology for the Ka-band.
Mitja Lovsin, STN’s sales and marketing director, said: “This is just another phase in STN’s business plan and new discussions are already underway for additional projects in Africa and other regions across the globe”.
