Com Hem is beginning the rollout of a 1,000 Mbps broadband service, but admits it won’t be mainstream for some time to come.
Last August the Swedish cablenet launched its Broadband 500 service, which is now available to some 1.4 million customers. Subsequently 1000 Mbps is being offered to customers who choose Com Hem as a service provider in open networks.
“We can deliver faster speeds and it is natural to ask how fast broadband they actually need . The answer of course varies with the client’s needs , but we can say for sure is the trend towards really fast broadband is unambiguous. The recent development of more and more capacity-demanding services such as streaming music and films as well as a growing number of connected devices in the home is driving the need for higher bandwidth capacity , says Marie Johansson, Head of Product Management Broadband and Telephony, Com Hem.
“1,000 Mbps broadband will not be a mass product in the near term, but we see a demand for the service from interested customers. It is also important that we continue to develop our infrastructure to cope with the really fast speeds that may be standard in a few years.”
She added that 100 Mbps remained the best-selling service with 250 Mbps to 500 Mbps all steadily increasing.
