Eutelsat teams up with Quadrille

March 10, 2014 14.02 Europe/London By Chris Dziadul

Eutelsat -REutelsat has entered into a partnershipo with Quadrille to deliver non-linear content through the satellite operator’s new “smart LNB” technology.

The “smart LNB” is a low-cost device that bundles DTH reception of TV channels with a narrowband satellite return channel for short transmissions of IP packets. As such, it opens the door for broadcasters to operate their own ecosystem of linear television and connected TV services direct by satellite.

Quadrille’s MConnect push solution is an end to end solution allowing any content to be pushed over DVB and IP networks to receivers equipped with a hard disk to be then consumed on demand.

Combining Quadrille’s Push technology with the “smart LNB” allows operators to offer on demand services such VOD, catch-up TV and social TV to any household. Thanks to the return channel of the “smart LNB”, content protection is the same as for terrestrial services. Encrypted Content is stored locally on a STB or network-attached storage, and is available on all connected devices in the home (TV, media centres, smartphones and tablets) with the same DRM.

Commenting on the development, Jean-Philippe Plantevin, Quadrille’s CCO, said: “We are proud to team up with Eutelsat one of the leading worldwide satellite operators to facilitate this new technology. We are certain that the “smart LNB”, mixed with our multimedia Push technology will extend the reach of Connected TV services to many untapped markets”.

Antonio Arcidiacono, Eutelsat’s director of innovation, added: “Combining Multimedia Push and “smart LNB” technologies allows Eutelsat to demonstrate new services over satellite and to imagine new ways to deliver content everywhere in the world.”
