The Hungarian incumbent Magyar Telekom saw strong growth in the take-up of IPTV services in its home market in 2013.
According to the company, it ended the year with 389,700 customers, or 24.4% more than a year earlier.
Its DTH subscriber total meanwhile grew by a more modest 5.5% over the same period, from 291,118 to 307,147.
On the other hand, the telco’s cable subscriber total continued to fall, due to migration to IPTV, and it ended the year with 190,869 customers, a 17.1% reduction on the number a year earlier.
The total number of TV customers stood at 887,716, or 6.35 more than a year earlier. Blended TV market share in Q4 2013 was 25.8%, compared to 25.4% a year earlier, and blended TV ARPU in Q4 was, at HUF3,139 (€10.14), 1.1% higher than a year earlier.
Magyar Telekom also saw strong growth in its IPTV subscriber total in Macedonia in 2013, the figure of 87,686 being 32.6% more than a year earlier. In Montenegro, the increase was 9.1%, up from 54,248 to 59,188.
The telco’s TV revenues as a whole amounted to HUF9.6 billion in Q4 2013, compared to HUF5.3 billion a year earlier. This was mainly helped by the growth of its IPTV base, both in Hungary and other markets.
Magyar Telekom’s total reveneus in Q4 amounted to HUF165,741 million, or 0.5% more than a year earlier.
EBITDA was up 4.7% year-on-year at HUF38,753 million.
Net income increased from a loss of HUF1, 613 million in Q4 2012 to a profit of HUF253 million in Q4 2013.
