Spain’s Professional Football League (LFP) wants to put an end to broadcasters gaining free access to stadia to record highlights of games.
According to El Economista, it is negotiating with the government to ensure broadcasters such as Mediaset, Atresmedia and RTLE are charged up to €40 million for the right to record games.
LFP’s objective is to increase the value of TV rights for clubs to €1 billion in the next three seasons.
Today, that figure stands at around €760 million, of which €560 million is from Spain’s domestic market and €200 million internationally.
Last week the LFP launched an advertising campaign against piracy, which its says is costing football in Spain between €125 million and €150 million a year.
