RTÉ’s board has welcomed the Irish government’s approval of the re-appointment of Noel Curran as the broadcaster’s DG for four years.
Commenting on the re-appointment, Tom Savage, chairman of the RTÉ Board, said: “I would like to say how pleased I am personally that Noel Curran has agreed to continue for a further period of four years. The Board and I look forward to continuing to work with him. The organisation as a whole will benefit from a steady hand in these difficult economic times and the changes in this industry that lie ahead.”
RTÉ’s DG is appointed by the board following a public competition and the board recently requested Noel Curran to remain in the role for another four years.
Under Section 89 of the Broadcasting Act, the consent of government is necessary for RTÉ to appoint a DG.
