Belgian operator Mobistar has paid a total of €1.2m to Telenet and Brutélé-Tecteo in order to gain access to the cable networks.
Mobistar said it has made payments of €600,000 each in order to start access to the networks of the two operators under the new Open Cable regulation. The cablers now have to open up their networks within six months.
The operator, which is owned by France Telecom, is looking to use access to cable networks to enter the triple and quad play markets.
Until last September, Mobistar offered a hybrid digital TV solution in cooperation with the two Belgian DTH platforms operated by the M7 Group, TV Vlaanderen and TeleSat.
However, the DSL/satellite combination proved to be unsuccessful with a total number of 27,846 subscribers at the end of 2012. Last May, the operator said it would cease selling the hybrid product, moving all customers over to TV Vlaanderen and TeleSat.
