Virgin Media is understood to be one of a number of international operators trialling a network digital video recorder developed by TiVo.
The Liberty Global operator has previously expressed an interest in running slave boxes that work in tandem with a master TiVo receiver.
Sweden’s Com Hem and Spain’s ONO also run the TiVo system.
TiVo’s Roamio network system makes it possible for operators to decide whether the consumer can use share copies of shows or whether an individual recording is required.
TiVo suggests that operators could also use Roamio to create their own catch-up TV services.
The company has also said it has opened up its API to home automation developer Control4 to control TiVo device features and functionality.
