UPC cablecom offers more unencrypted HD channels

October 16, 2013 09.29 Europe/London By Robert Briel

Swiss upc cablecom is offering a total of unencrypted 27 channels in HD quality in German-speaking Switzerland.

These can be received at no additional charge and without a set-top box as part of the basic package of more than 60 digital channels. The new Swiss entertainment channel S1 TV has also been added to the basic package. The analogue offer will still be available in a reduced form and now includes the 25 most watched channels. In addition, a further 17 channels are now available in HD within the digital products.

Six channels are now available in HD as part of the basic package, among them Star TV, youth channel MTV, children’s channel Nickelodeon together with Comedy Central and the three most popular French channels: TF1, France2 and M6. The operator has also added the new Swiss entertainment channel S1 TV in HD to its basic package.

The cabler also made some additions to its its Compact, Classic and Comfort packages. Depending on the subscription, up to 17 channels will now be broadcast in HD, among them popular channels such as RTL Nitro or DMAX. New channel S1 TV HD and cookery channel Bon Gusto have also been added to the Comfort channel package.

Meanwhile, upc cablecom is reducing its analogue offer to the 25 most watched channels in German-speaking Switzerland by removing the following eight channels: TV5 Monde, France 2, EuroNews, RAI 1, MTV Schweiz, ORF 2, Eurosport and CNN.
