Caiway combines linear TV and cloud

September 27, 2013 05.36 Europe/London By Robert Briel

Dutch cable operator Caiway has selected Entone’s Amulet Hybrid Media Hub for their new fibre roll-out.

Entone and Divitel, an independent systems integrator and digital video solutions provider, have implemented the Entone Hybrid TV solution, that enables blends the best of traditional broadcast services and OTT media as a unified ‘Input 1’ experience. In the case of Caiway, traditional linear TV services are complemented by cloud-based video services such as the on-demand Pathé Thuis service.

“Entone’s Hybrid TV platform lets us offer a highly differentiated service that demonstrates the value of our fiber network,” said Paul van Doorne, CCO at Caiway. “We chose Entone due to their track record for innovative products and exceptional support for both customers and other ecosystem partners.”

Entone’s Amulet 515 Hybrid Media Hub deployed at Caiway features a flexible universal storage module (USM) hard drive that can either be pre-installed, or added later by the consumer.

The USM hard drive also allows consumers to increase disk capacity as desired without requiring a truck roll by the service operator. For added convenience, the Amulet Hybrid Media Hub provides multi-tuner and dual TV support and offers a carrier-grade 5 GHz Wi-Fi networking option (dependent of middleware platform) for wireless whole-home HD video distribution.

“Caiway has been progressive in deploying next-generation technologies to enable them to offer a comprehensive portfolio of innovative features,” commented Mark Evensen, founder and CTO at Entone. “We look forward to supporting Caiway as they continue to grow their customer base with new and compelling revenue-generating services.”

“As a solutions provider for professional digital video, we always strive to offer our customers a flexible and future-proof solution that suits their business case best. To meet the ambitious goals of Caiway, the flexibility of Entone is an important factor to their current success,” Jeroen van Vliet, sales manager at Divitel.
