Discovery Communications has failed to secure a slot for its channel DMAX on Poland’s first DTT multiplex (MUX-1).
This follows the award of licences by the country’s National Broadcasting Council (KRRiT) to Stopklatka and TV Spectrum to distribute a movie and educational channel respectively on the multiplex.
Stopklatka, which beat off bids from Mediasat, Telewizja Polsat and TV Film, now plans to launch Spotklatka TV, which will be backed by Kino Polska TV and Agora and offer a mix of classic Polish movies, European and World movie titles.
Significantly, it will be interactive and made available on a number of devices. TV Spectrum meanwhile fought off rival bids by Discovery Communications, 4fun Media, Apella, Edusat, Media Works and TVR. Its new channel will be known as Fokus TV and targeted at young viewers.
Discovery Communications had planned to launch a Polish language version of DMAX on the first multiplex.
The two new channels can only be launched after being allocated frequencies by the Office of Electronic Communications and no later than April 28, 2014.
