Czech pay-DTT trial under way

September 5, 2013 07.12 Europe/London By Chris Dziadul

Ceske RadiokomunikaceThe Czech national transmission company Ceske Radiokomunikace (CRa) has begun trialing pay-DTT.

In a statement, it says that began experimental DVB-T2 transmissions in July 2012 in which it has distributed HD versions of the channels CT1, Prima and Barrandov TV.

Film Europe Channel HD and Eurosport have now joined them and are being broadcast as encrypted pay-TV services.

Ceske Radiokomunikace is undertaking the pay-TV trial in cooperation with LICA, which is ensuring the technical coding of paid content.

Separately, fears have been raised about the prospects for regional DTT broadcasting in the Czech Republic, as frequency allocations for regional multiplexes are due to expire in 2017.
