TV4 News is to close after it emerged that the channel was not expected to become profitable.
Launched in January 2012, TV4 News was the first dedicated news channel in the Swedish language, though in the past there had been local versions of Sky News and CNBC.
Viveka Hansson, programme director for news and current affairs said the channel had been a crash course in fast news reporting that had improved coverage across the TV4 network.
“TV4 News has even made the evening news better – and the growth will continue. We will not stop to report on what is happening,” said Hansson.
Discussions as to the precise future of the channel, which also took material from BBC World News, are currently underway.
