The new Polish news and information-based channel Telewizja Republika is being made available to cable and DTH subscribers from today (May 6).
Speaking to the local press, its head Piotr Barelkowski said that cable would increase its viewership by one million and DTH – specifically Cyfrowy Polsat – by 2.5 million.
Furthermore, it expects to have up to five million viewers within the next two months.
Telewizja Republika was officially launched on April 10, the third anniversary of the Smolensk aircrash, and has until now been available only over the internet.
Its revenues will be derived mostly from fees obtained from cable and DTH distribution, along with – to a lesser degree – advertising.
It will also shortly become a paid-for internet service.
