Some of the 2013 Samsung Blu-ray players now feature the Opera Devices Software Development Kit (SDK).
This offers online video support for YouTube, BBC iPlayer and more. The new Opera-powered Samsung Blu-ray players allow viewers to watch their favourite Blu-ray Discs and DVDs, but also to enjoy various streaming video services.
The Opera Devices SDK is a development toolkit to build Smart TV solutions. With web-standards support, such as HTML5, CSS, JavaScript, SVG, 2D Canvas and WebGL, the Opera Devices SDK gives connected devices a boost with web-content rendering and streaming performance.
By supporting the new standards “Media Source Extensions” and “Encrypted Media Extensions”, the Opera’s engine enables the YouTube Leanback application.
“Samsung has raised the bar for connected home entertainment products with the Opera Devices SDK,” says Aneesh Rajaram, SVP, TV and devices for Opera Software.
“With best-in-class support for web and TV standards, plus unmatched rendering performance, the new Samsung Blu-ray players with popular web-based online video will make it even more tempting to stay on the couch.”
The new Opera-powered Samsung 2013 Blu-ray players will be available globally soon.
