RTL Radio in France has launched a web video service for the station’s morning programmes on the RTL.fr website and its iPhone and iPad app.
The broadcasters claims it has the most visited radio website in France with2.3 million unique visitors, according to the Médiamétrie survey for January through March 2013.
The image offers an alternative and complementary way of listening by visually reconstructing the ambience of the studios. At any time, the internet visitor can choose to switch to the actual audio player. For this, the studios have been equipped with cameras that offer up to five different setups.
In an interview with the daily Satellifax, Tristan Jurgensen, director of RTL Net, explained: “The objective is to have a complementary audience, and not for one audience to cannibalise the other. We’ve worked on this for long time. It’s a long and complicated project: we wanted to avoid having the TV studio effect, which can kill the intimacy of the radio station, and we really worked on modifying the lighting.”
Internet users can now watch these three programmes on their computers, mobile phones and tablets: the morning show RTL Matin (from 7:00 to 9:00am) presented by Laurent Bazin; Ça peut vous arriver (from 9:30 to 11:00am) presented by Julien Courbet and A la bonne heure (from 11:00am to 12:30pm) hosted by Stéphane Bern
RTL Radio has a daily audience of 6.3 million daily listeners and is available ona very powerful long wave transmitter as well on a network of FM stations.
